Author Robert Martin Bishop

Connecticut Author Robert Martin Bishop!

I, Jetebais by Robert Martin Bishop.

Building on the theme of separation and restoration that is inherent in faith, can a fallen angel achieve redemption after rebellion? Human arrogance, the Papacy, and the eternal struggle of Good versus Evil collide in this contemporary suspense novel by Robert Martin Bishop.

“I am the Rebellion!”

With these words, Jetebais laments his decision to leave heaven and now wishes to find a way to redeem himself.  He chooses a seemingly ordinary priest to hear his confession with the ultimate plan to shield mankind should Satan learn that he is exposing him and the paths by which mankind is led into evil.  The priest agrees to become Jetebais’ confessor and their harrowing, suspenseful journey as Jetebais acts as a “double agent” leads them to an explosive finish filled with Popes, fiends and fireworks.

Readers will enjoy a front row seat to Creation as well as many other Biblical and historical events.  Anyone who enjoys religious mysteries, such as Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, is sure to enjoy this book.

Review by Kirkus Reviews: "A high-fantasy account of reality as seen by one of Satan's brothers, sure to appeal to lovers of both fantasy and Christian literature."

Review by Pacific Book Awards: "I, Jetebais becomes an almost revolutionary text. The book does not pretend to know or preach easy answers to life's struggles, nor offer comforting remarks on why evil exists. And in that alone lies the genius behind the fiction. Choosing to seek atonement for one's actions is a very personal journey fraught with self-doubt, fear, and mistrust. It is this experience which shapes who we are, and who we become. And as I, Jetebais shows, the cleansing and redemptive power of such a quest can rival that of any evil on earth, no matter how sinister. Fans of mythology and Christian writings will surely find something to love about Bishop's groundbreaking saga."

Review by Gena McGlone: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Captivating!!! Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2021. Verified Purchase. I got so caught up in this book that I could not put it down! Even with my limited knowledge of biblical figures, events and history, this one really sucked me in. I looked up a few things just for reference, but it really was not necessary so don't be afraid if you're not an encyclopedia of biblical knowledge.  The plot will grab you and make you want to know what's going to happen next.  I found myself thinking about the characters and wondering if some of the things they experienced happen in our everyday lives as well. It will definitely make you think about the world around you. I can't recommend this book highly enough.  I wish it was a series because I'd love to know what happens next!

Review by Maizyblue: 5.0 out of 5 Stars. Can All be Forgiven? Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2016. Verified Purchase. The eternal question of man: Is God truly forgiving? Is there anyone so evil that God's love and forgiveness is denied to that person no matter that there is true repentance? Can Satan himself be outwitted? These are the core questions at the heart of this breathtaking debut novel by the very talented Robert Martin Bishop. Be prepared to want to read "I, Jetebais" in one sitting with a dictionary and Bible close at hand. In the course of challenging his readers to rethink everything they thought they knew about Satan and his followers and the evil that stalks mankind, Mr. Bishop also challenges his readers with some scholarly vocabulary and character names that all have biblical references. Taking the time to look these names up in the Bible allows the reader to find a deeper level of richness added to an already multi-layered tale. Mr. Bishop's concept is highly original and gripping, his voice resonant and refreshing, and the walk with Jetebais himself deeply moving and intriguing.

About The Author: Robert Martin Bishop grew up in the 1960s in Bristol, Connecticut, the son, and grandson of Lutheran pastors. In those days, suspicion and even a quiet animosity existed between the various faiths and churches in that relatively small town. Nuns in the Roman Catholic Church across the street from Bishop's Lutheran Church were forbidden by their priests to walk on the "Lutheran side of the street." This led him to ponder how such differences could be forgiven and resolved; this, in turn, started him wondering whether Satan's angels could also seek forgiveness. After retiring first from the corporate world and then from teaching high school, Bishop was finally able to write the novel that occupied his thoughts for decades. He is presently writing the sequel to this work.

Message From Author: I grew up the "pastor's kid" in 1960's Bristol, Connecticut. There was a church on every corner representing every branch of the Christian faith imaginable. Almost every church had a school associated with it. The divisions that existed between the churches were at the very core of what defined social norms - including which side of the street you walked on.

My father chose a career in faith over being a hockey player. My father took his calling seriously. He felt he was on stage 24/7. One day out of the blue, my father took down his skates and skated with us on the pond in the park. I was amazed at his skills. Then he hung up his skates and never skated again. My father became a Bishop in the Lutheran church and eventually took an assignment at a church in Germany. My father spoke German, my mother did not.

I learned to speak German and was an exchange student in Germany. To this day I love traditions and high church rituals and ceremonies. I now live in "Horse Country" with my wife and an assortment of pets.
